Hotel in Mikindani

The Old Boma Hotel in southern Tanzania is a national monument that was originally a German fort built in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It has been beautifully and sensitively restored into a comfortable hotel with up to date facilities, whilst retaining many original features and charm.

The Old Boma is located on the side of a hill overlooking the Indian Ocean, providing breathtaking views from dawn to dusk.

Each room has either a sea, garden or pool view and is individually designed with a traditional hand carved bed and other locally crafted furniture, pictures and bed spreads.

Each room also offers a strong and reliable free wifi connection.

A wide variety of activities and excursions are available from the Old Boma Hotel.   These include PADI operated diving trips, a voyage on a traditional dhow sailing boat, expeditions to remote, idyllic beaches, journeys to the Mozambique border for hippo and croc spotting and guided tours around the local historic sites and markets.

Hotel facilities include the Afya Spa, restaurant, bar and large swimming pool surrounded by Frangipani and Flame trees.

The Old Boma is run by Trade Aid and provides vocation training opportunities within the local community.

“…this is southern Tanzania’s best hotel by miles, with bags of atmosphere, outstanding accommodation, and a wide range of activities and excursions” Rough Guide to Tanzania, July 2015
