WHAT OUR VISITORS SAY

One of the rooms in The Old Boma HotelWe are often asked, "Who visits the Old Boma?"

Guests arrive at the Old Boma in Mikindani for all sorts of reasons.

Some are intrepid wanderers, just passing through, as part of their African Adventure!

Some are retracing their ancestry - following the Slave Routes or exploring the places where their forefathers lived and worked during Colonial times.

Others are on business, conducting meetings and developing links with new industries that are setting up in the rapidly expanding nearby town of Mtwara.

Some want to help to develop the training opportunities for the local staff and recognise that by staying at the hotel they are supporting the charity Trade Aid in its fight against poverty.

Most visitors, however, come to the Old Boma simply for a magical, unique and relaxing experience. Far away from the bustle and hustle of the modern world, The Old Boma offers a rare treat - simple, yet efficient hospitality – luxury like it used to be!

We receive many testimonials over the years. Those printed below are the most recent and are, of course completely unsolicited:

Hello Trade Aid.

It has been several months since I visited The Old Boma and returned to Canada, but I still think of my visit there quite often and wish I were back there. The days I spent there were the best part of my entire trip to Africa. I needed to spend some relaxation time and the time at The Old Boma was just perfect for that. I have told many people about the experience there and showed my photos as well. Everyone who has seen them has been quite impressed. I have also referred people to the website.

I do hope The Old Boma will be able to retain its character and resist the changes of the outside world in the times to come. It is not very often that you come across an experience as special as that in today's world! It is unfortunate that wonderful experiences such as a stay at The Old Boma are so rare in today's society. I am just fortunate to have had the experience.

Dear Saada and all the Staff at The Old Boma,

Looking towards the lagoon from inside The Old Boma HotelI wanted to take a few moments to thank you and all the staff at the Old Boma for the most wonderful stay.

The Hotel far exceeded our expectations and really was the highlight of our trip.

We have stayed in many hotels around the world and throughout Africa and I can honestly say that the Old Boma is one amongst the very best.

Apart from the friendly and very willing staff and all the facilities (pool, en suite rooms, Broadband) the building itself is so beautiful and has been so wonderfully restored by Trade Aid.

Thank you very much indeed.

Dear Trade Aid and the Managers of the Old Boma Hotel,

Thank you for a marvellous stay at your beautiful hotel. We visited with my elderly mother and father and my two young children (quite a challenge!) but the staff were so helpful and thoughtful – we all had a fantastic time.

We took two excursions. My husband and I took the dhow trip in the evening and watching the sun set over the bay is an image that I will keep with me for many years to come. The children loved the snorkelling trip to the beach and the al fresco barbeque was wonderful.

We are living and working in Tanzania for several years, in Arusha and then in Dar es Salaam and we will be definitely returning to the Old Boma.

A word of praise for the excellent UN reception that was held at your Hotel.

Staff were helpful and efficient and the buffet for over fifty persons was excellent.

Please pass on our thanks to all the staff concerned.

Yours truly,

Dear Trade Aid and the Managers of the Old Boma Hotel,

Dear Gavin

I would like to thank you for the warm welcome you gave me on my recent visit to Mtwara. It was a pleasure to re-visit the Old Bome and meet with the Trade Aid team in Mikindani, especially as a vice-patron of the organisation. I particularly enjoyed the chance to see the new restoration work that you have embarked upon and hear more about the training and employment opportunities that you are providing for local people.

It was a very memorable and comfortable stay and I look forward to finding my way back to a region, which - as you know - has special significance for me.
